guardrail shelf
The guardrail shelf adapts the modular concept of highway guardrails and translates it through oak wood.
A highway guardrail is a safety barrier designed to prevent vehicles from leaving the roadway, reduce crash severity, and protect drivers from roadside hazards. It is a modular system, designed to construct continuous barriers along highways and can be adapted to suit any specific traffic section.

The barrier itself, also called a w-beam, is a strong and durable form, engineered to be able to impact the energy of a car crash.
This work is part of 'highway systems', a larger research in how principles of highway infrastructure can inform furniture design.
